November 2005
Dear Parishioners,
This brochure describes some of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina on Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish in Long Beach, Mississippi. The Church, School and Parish center have been completely destroyed, and at the present time Masses, school classes and other parish activities are being conducted in a local roller skating rink.
It’s been a joy speaking with Father Louis Lohan, Pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish (Diocese of Biloxi, MS). It is inspiring to hear him describe the faith and enthusiasm of the parishioners there – determined especially to continue their vibrant life of faith as they rebuild their parish facilities.
We hope that by adopting this parish we will help assist them in rebuilding their facilities. We will also keep you informed about any other needs of that parish and its families. Father Lohan has asked if we would like a speaker to visit us, which may well become a reality in the near future.
Please consider helping this parish. The parishioners have a strong and vibrant faith, striving to rebuild not only their own lives and homes, but their parish facilities as well. As Thanksgiving Day approaches, we become especially mindful of the many ways in which the Lord blesses us. As Christ himself reminds us, “Give to others and I will give to you. Indeed, I will give you a full measure, a generous helping, poured into your hands, all that you can hold.” (Luke 6:38)
Please be generous to these people in need. Perhaps you would prefer a one-time gift, or a pledge which can be repaid over a number of months. A pledge form and return envelope are enclosed for your use.
Already, our “adopted” parish is praying for us, as we have been praying for them these past weeks. Sincere and grateful thanks for your goodness!
Sincerely and gratefully,
Rev. Msgr. John F. Bennett Mr. Alan Jones
