Sept. 11-29 MAGAZINE DRIVELast year’s magazine drive was a huge success! 40% of proceeds go back to the school. Remember you can renew your existing subscriptions through St. Pat’s. Sept 26- Oct 16 WRAPPING PAPER SALEThis is an opportunity to stock up on wrapping paper and accessories for the holidays and all occasions. 50% of proceeds go to the school. You may also order online throughout the year. Volunteers needed to tally orders at the school. Chairperson – Christine McCarron 673-1995 April 16 FASHION SHOWLadies night out! Sophisticated fashions with an excellent dinner. The models are Moms, Dads, and Faculty. Many volunteers are needed for planning, raffles, etc. Chairperson - Parents Resource Group May 8 GOLF AND TENNIS OUTINGA St. Patrick’s tradition of 25 years. BIRTHDAY BULLETIN BOARDOur students’ birthdays are announced each month on the bulletin board on the first floor. Volunteers each take a month to decorate the board. Coordinators: Liz Buttiglione: 425-0142
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION GIFT PROGRAMThis is a voluntary program through which a child in Grades 1-4 donates a new, hard-covered book to the school library to commemorate his or her birthday. The book is selected from a list compiled by this committee under the guidance of the teachers. Many volunteers are needed. The book has a bookplate with the child’s name and birthdate inside. BOOK FAIRThis event is a wonderful way to stock up on summer reading material while benefiting our school. Many volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts through the course of the week to assist children with their selections, collect money, deliver books, etc. Chairperson – Karen Storm: 421-1139 Anne Dayton: 424-2238 BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATIONParents are encouraged to send in box tops from Betty Crocker food items in an envelope marked “Box Tops for Education” throughout the year. The proceeds go toward new books and classroom equipment. Chairpersons: Theresa McGovern: 351-4870
BOWLINGStudents in grades K-8 meet once a week for 2 ten-week sessions beginning in October and January from 3:30-5:00pm. Chaperones are required to stay. All children receive trophies. Chairperson: Frank DiSpigna 423-2171 CAMP FOR KIDS PULL TAB COLLECTIONAluminum tabs from juice and soda cans are collected for scrap metal, proceeds of which benefit children who cannot afford medical care. Students are encouraged to bring in tabs and deposit them in the jar marked “Pull Tab Collection” near the office. This is a great way for kids to help kids and the environment. CAMPBELL LABELSParents are encouraged to send in labels from Campbell Soup, Prego Sauces, Pepperidge Farm Products, V8, and Franco American in an envelope marked “Campbell Soup Labels” throughout the year. The program allows us to earn things like gym equipment and software. Chairperson: Pat Signorile: 427-7602 CHARITY DAYThis is an annual event where our children raise money for charity. Fund raising activities take place during gym class. In previous years, our children have raised thousands of dollars to benefit Hemophilia, Ronald McDonald House, and Catholic Relief Services Chairperson - Patti Waldron 673-7911 CLASS REPRESENTATIVESClass Representatives are liaisons between the Parents, PRG Board, and the School Board. They assist teachers with class trips, parties, plays, etc. They also contact parents when necessary for speedy communications and keep the Class Representative Coordinators up to date on any class list changes. COMPUTER CARTRIDGE/CELL PHONE COLLECTIONOld computer cartridges and cell phones are collected and earn money for our school! Remind family members who work in an office to donate these items throughout the year. Chairperons: Liz Buttiglione 425-0142
CULTURAL ARTS IN EDUCATIONThe purpose of this program is to enhance the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the Arts. Volunteers are assigned one 40 minute lesson for a particular month and have available to them a library of ideas for all grade levels. New ideas or lessons are always welcome. Chairpersons: Karen Storm – 421-1139 Laura Campbell – 673-9736 CHICKEN FINGER DAYChicken fingers served with penne pasta and a salad are brought in from DiRamos on Mondays. Money is collected twice a year. Volunteers are needed for distribution. Chairperson: Diane Mitchell: 423-3826 HERO DAYEvery Thursday heroes are brought in from Fireside deli. Students receive a choice of hero (turkey, roast beef, ham & cheese, tuna, or bologna) and a bag of chips. Packets of mayo and mustard are provided. Volunteers are needed for distribution. Money is collected twice a year. Chairperson: Elsa Straub: 421-2376 LIBRARY HELPERSVolunteers are needed one or two mornings per week to help catalogue books. Please, no siblings. LIP SYNC SHOWThis will be our sixth show! The children form groups and practice for the big night! Even the faculty performs! A great family night held in Murray Hall. LOVING HANDS QUILTSKnitted, crocheted, and sewn quilts are distributed to children’s hospitals and homes with HIV positive babies. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate and share ideas for gathering as many blankets as possible. The blankets are displayed in the school cafeteria during Lent. This is a great idea for Cultural Arts, or a Brownie/Cub Scout Community Service Project throughout the year. Chairperson: Dorothy Drake 427-6722 SPORTS DAY (formerly Olympic Day)Grades K-8 students compete in physical challenges. Volunteers prepare lunch (hot dogs, chips, cotton candy, ice cream), set up and clean up. Chairperson – Deborah Lynch 424-6761 Nancy Dougherty 351-0802 OPERATION SWEET TOOTHHalloween candy is collected the day after Halloween in the school lobby and then brought to charities in needy neighborhoods where it is not safe for children to trick-or-treat. PIZZA DAYEvery Wednesday Pizza is brought in from DiRaimo’s Pizza on Wall Street. Volunteers are needed to distribute the pizza at the school. Money is collected twice a year. Chairperson: Rosalie Paradiso- 516-731-2060
QUESADILLASEvery Friday, Quesadillas from Oaxaca on NY Avenue are served. Money is collected twice a year. Volunteers are needed for distribution. Chairperson: Angela Pastorelli: 547-1532
RAVIOLI DAYA hot ravioli & meatball lunch is brought in from DiRamos every Thursday. Volunteers are needed to help distribute. Money is collected twice a year. Chairperson: Nancy Straub: 271-2426
PRG BULLETIN BOARDThe bulletin boards are located on the first floor next to the office and at the back of the office. Assistance is needed with seasonal decorating and the posting of up-to-date notices. Chairperson: Carleen Russo 271-3830
ROLLER SKATING NIGHTHeld at the United Skates Rink, this annual event is one of the most enjoyable family events of the school year. Due to overwhelming demand, tickets are available on a first come first served basis to currently enrolled St. Patrick’s students only. No outside friends please. SANTA’S WORKSHOPAt Santa’s Workshop, students from Pre-Kindergarten to the eighth grade have the opportunity to create Christmas gifts for friends and family at no charge. Volunteer parents supply nearly completed crafts. Gifts are wrapped and brought home for safekeeping until the BIG day! SCHOOL JACKETSSchool jackets are sold in February and distributed in the spring. A variety of styles, sizes and prices are available. Parents are encouraged to come to the office in February to try the samples on their child. Volunteers needed to tally orders, collect money and distribute jackets during school hours. SPECIAL PERONS DAYThis special day is reserved for up to two grandparents and/or special persons (i.e. aunts, uncles, neighbors, older St. Patrick’s graduates) of each student. PATRICK’S DAY PARADEOur school is always strongly represented in the Huntington Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Again, behind the scenes, there is much planning and co-coordinating. SUMMER READING PROGRAMA memo is sent home in late May to remind students of the program and the wonderful prizes that will be awarded. Volunteers are needed a couple of hours in the fall to tally results, issue certificates and raffle tickets. Chairperson – Ann Sheehan 423-5118
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEKClass representatives and volunteers organize a special thank-you from the children for each teacher and aid. The week culminates with a breakfast that parents prepare to thank our faculty and staff for a job well done! Chairperson - Pat Signorile 427-7602
UNIFORM EXCHANGEThis is an opportunity to purchase slightly used uniforms at a fraction of the cost. This event is held prior to the PRG meetings in Spring and Fall. Gently used uniforms are always welcome! Chairperson: Karen Storm: 421-1139
